What is so bad about Wikipedia, that teachers should prohibit students from using it for projects or reports? I am helping my nephew with his 5th grade science project. The assignment sheet he was given has "NO WIKIPEDIA" printed boldly across the bottom of the page. I mentioned this to a coworker and learned that his girl, (7th grader in a different school), has the same issue.

You are definitely in the wrong forum here, yet:
Wikipedia can be modified by everybody and in many cases the information is wrong. Wikipedia is made by "so called experts" and in many cases they are no experts at all. Students have to learn how to use proper literature, how to do research in a library or in a literature database. My students for example are also not allowed to use Wikipedia nor are they allowed to uses internet resources at all! Wikipedia and the Internet can't be used for proper scientific work. The Internet can be used to assist that work, you can use databases easily by using the internet. But not Internet Search Machines and the results you get from that "search".
Kind regards
Chris
